I just ordered a mobile phone. I chose the HTC Desire. The telephone ordering system in Austria is so simple. You go online. You choose your handset and price plan. You enter your address. You enter your passport details. You enter a credit card number for paying for the phone and for the monthly billing. Hey presto, your phone is ordered. The price plans are pretty impressive here too. The huzband encouraged me to order this phone, cos I think he’d like one himself, and with the 1000 free texts and the 1 GB data volume included in the price plan each month, I am sure he’ll be using it at weekends. In fact, I think it will be our phone from friday evening to monday morning, rather than my phone.
I’m looking forward to getting my hands on this shiny new toy.
Gemma Ahern, sister of Abigail Ahern of Artelier Abigail Ahern and her boyfriend live in a dramatically painted apartment. It was featured in the New York Times. My current obsession is with white tongue and groove cottage interiors, so I was amazed to find myself extremely drawn to the images of these interiors. I’m not sure I could live with a whole apartment painted in Down Pipe, a colour described as A colour appropriate to imitate lead on exterior ironwork and to help ‘lose’ plumbing against brickwork. but certainly, I think it would work well in a small space, like a shower room, the fact that I want to paint our en-suite in a dramatic colour has nothing to do with posting these images.
39 little pots. soon to germinate.

you can see what I planted on flickr.
but, briefly, broccoli, beans, sweetcorn, chillies, dill, basil, tomatoes (7 species), aubergine, strawberries, vulcan ruhbarb chard (cool name), rocket, brussels sprouts etc.
The window they are in gets the sunlight for most of the day.
I have a great plan to build raised beds for my little plants. I priced rough timber today. It was a very reasonable 15 euro (including VAT) for a 4.8 meter length.
When I build my beds, I’d like to sow some carrots. I have radishes too. The problem is where to put the beds, the balcony only gets a couple of hours sunlight each day, but, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Some plant species actually like shade. Or at least they can tolerate less sun.
It was slightly annoying, to find stuff sold in “feet” lengths, when I calculate everything in metric. but, apparently, 16 foot lenghts equate to 4.8 meters approximately, or 4800mm.
all of a sudden, i find myself in a gardening crazy place. the problem is, the plants chosen for the balconies don’t require much looking after, herbs and veg on the other hand…..
