Jim O’Leary has one of the most sensible articles about the decisions facing the government that I have read in a long time. There are some sobering realities in the article.
What may appear eminently fair to one group may seem profoundly unfair to another. Many think it fair that the wealthy should bear the brunt of the adjustment, but the wealthy, who have already seen a large portion of their wealth destroyed over the past two years, almost certainly take a different view.
This notion of “target the wealthy” as a panacea for all the budget woes simply isn’t realistic for all sorts of reasons pointed out within the article.
