west cork update

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

over Easter some tidying up of the garden was completed and the shop front was partially painted and mended.

the garden clippings were mulched for the beds to keep weeds at bay. some day, those sheds will be restored. after the house is dealt with, of course.

garden progress

The runaway success story of my season so far is without a doubt my courgette and summer squash. They are rapidly growing.

I’m also quite proud of my single corn plant, though it is growing slowly.

parking meter that annoys me

dsc00162

This is a parking meter on Adelaide Street in Dun Laoghaire. I often pass it and it drives me crazy. Parking meters are pretty inoffensive items most of the time, but the orientation of this one highlights that the people who installed it or who oversaw the decision making regarding the orientation of the meter are complete idiots. You can see that the pavement is narrow. It is bordered on one side by cars, typically, and on another side my hedging and fencing. It’s a small canyon. When there is a person standing facing the meter, getting a parking ticket, they completely block the pavement. It’s hard to get around them. You have to negotiate your way onto the road, through the cars, or they have to step away from the meter to let you pass.

Would it not have been a clever idea to rotate it through 90 degrees so that the person feeding the meter didn’t block the pavement completely? They could have stood, neatly, on one side of the pavement, facing the meter and allowing people to pass. Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown have some idiots working for them, or else they hired some idiot contractors.
