why do some bring centres for recycling operate at such unfriendly hours?
we have a bag full of clothes waiting to go for recycling ( i really don’t think they are good enough for charity shops, they are ancient) but the problem is finding a bring centre that is open in the evening.
the dublin waste website allows you to search for recycling centres that will take your specific stuff, in my case, reusable clothing. the nearest one happens to be in glasthule. great i thought, i’ll go there on the way to work. luckily for me, i can go there on the way to work, otherwise i’d have no chance of making their opening hours, which to my mind seem a little limited.
Mon-Thur 8.30am-4.00pm
Friday 8.30am-2.00pm
Saturday 8.30am-3.30pm
Sunday Closed
if i were running the bring centre, i’d try to ensure it was open on a sunday. nearby dun laoghaire is at its busiest on a sunday, the farmers market runs, etc. if you want to encourage people to recycle, then, having the recycling centre open on what is generally the busiest day in the area would be useful.
dissatisfied with the limited opening hours, i went further afield in search of recycling centres near to where i live that may be open for longer hours and that take clothing.
the dun laoghaire rathdown website provides such information under the heading “recycling” in its AtoZ index. ballyogan recycling centre is linked to from the main page, but you have to pay twenty euro per car to recycle in ballyogan! hardly encouraging, is it?
i found a list of twenty four hour bring centres. the list was only five clicks from the main page. i only had to scroll to the bottom of two windows. again, not exactly encouraging. you have to dig five links deep to find the information.
