lazy journalism

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

It’s amazing how the British press still consider citizens of Ireland to be “British”. In the mind of the Brits, we Irish are still their property and still consider their Queen to be our head of state e.t.c. It makes me wonder what they are teaching people in their education system about Ireland. If we feature at all.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers probably does sound very British in name. Except he is very definitely Irish. He grew up in Cork as has been documented and was born in Ireland. I can attest to him being from Cork, because I used to see him in a pool hall that we frequented whilst in school. A friend of mine who moves in drama circles used to point him out and tell us he would be “hitting the big time soon!”. She was correct.

Anyway, there was an article in the telegraph newspaper claiming him. It was in relation to the Emmy’s.

For the record, he is Irish. I’m sure he’d say so himself.

all hail the new mr. darcy

Today, I went to see Pride and Prejuidice. Being old enough to remember the BBC’s adaptation, I was eager to see someone new in the role of Mr. Darcy. I think he will set a whole new generation of teenage hearts along with those of Bridget Jones types all a-flutter. Matthew McFadyen was excellent in his portrayal and Kiera Knightley makes a great new Elizabeth Bennet. In some respects, their falling in love was more believable than Jennifer Ehle’s and Colin Firth’s protrayals. It was an excellent production, and a lovely diversion for a few hours. Some might say, uh, Jane Austen, total chickflick, but even SK enjoyed it. Go see!

reflections on turning thirty

…….. i’d much rather be in my twenties
…….. i think my face has aged overnight
…….. where did all those grey hairs come from?
…….. why didn’t it occur to me before now that my boobs haven’t got smaller, they have just sagged, a push up bra puts them back where they used to be and restores their size
…….. where are all the wrinkles coming from?
…….. oh my God, I am twice the age of these drunken teenagers celebrating their junior cert results
