teachers

ratemyteachers.ie has been getting a lot of coverage of late.

When I first checked the site, five of the teachers from my secondary school were rated. Now, there are thirty-four teachers rated. I can find most of the teachers who taught me in there. I’d like to think that after eleven years, I can look back and think about them in a fairly objective manner. But the ratings bring it all back to me. With teachers it seems, nothing changes. The comments about my old teachers pretty much sum up what I would have said about them. It’s interesting that they haven’t changed at all in the time since I left, nor have students’ opinions of them.

It’s also interesting that when I go to Cork, I am stuck by the sameness of students eleven years on. They could be me, in terms of hairstyles, school shoes, school bags etc. In education, little changes.
