Iranrod Eireann state on their website that you can buy a weekender card at any booking office on presentation of a passport photograph and payment of â¬6.35.
However, when you go to their fares web page, there is NO mention of what price a train ticket to Cork is with a weekender card.
Similarly, if you go to book a ticket, the only options available to you are:
ADULT â¬54.50 CHILD â¬22.50 FAIRCARD â¬30.00 STUDENT â¬27.00
So, there is no way on line to book the following tickets:
Adult Day Return â¬59.00 Adult 5 Day Return â¬59.00 Monthly Return â¬65.00 Student Return â¬38.50 Family 1 Day â¬84.00 Family Monthly â¬118.00
Worse that that, there is a total lack of transparency about what savings you will make on tickets if you purchase a Weekender Card.
To have the information on what price a return weekender ticket to Cork is revealed to you, it is necessary to ring 1850 366222 or fill out the online form which states that the following information is mandatory:
| * Type of Ticket |
Is this a deliberate ploy to discourage people from purchasing weekend cards? Why is name, address, email necessary? Why can’t they just let you enter data and return the information to you. Wouldn’t it be more cost effective for them to have a database answering a simple query than a human at the end of a telephone line? Why are weekender card holders not able to buy tickets on line? How much is the weekender return fair to Cork City? or anywhere else for that matter? Why is it necessary to ring or fill out a form? Why can’t they just publish ALL their prices?
In shops and restaurants and pubs, prices must be displayed by law. Why does the same not apply to Iranrod Eireann and its discounted tickets? Shame on you Iranrod Eireann. Publish your full range of prices.
